World no.7, Korea’s top women’s singles player Sung Ji Hyun, representing Team VICTOR, will hope to bring her super win streak to 20 at the Taipei Arena next week.
Sung Ji Hyun is now on a 15-match winning streak at the Chinese Taipei Open.
The Chinese Taipei Open, a BWF Grand Prix Gold event boasting its strongest line-up ever with the Olympic Games points starting counting, will take place next Tuesday in the capital city of Taiwan.
Defending champion Sung Ji Hyun currently holds a 15-victory streak here with wins in 2011, 2013, and 2014 (absent in 2012) and looks to make it 20 this time. But the German Open winner will be expected to be up as early in the quarterfinals against Taiwan’s World no.5 Tai Tzu Ying and a boisterous local crowd.
Her compatriot Son Wan Ho, as the seventh seeds, will start his campaign in the 64-player men’s singles draw. Coming off a mixed team gold medal, unbeaten, in this week’s Universiade in Gwangju, Son bids for a repeat after winning in 2013. Korea’s super stars Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong will also make their Taipei debut as a team. They pulled out of last year’s event due to Lee’s back injury.
