Korean sweeps three golds in Korea Open, Lee farewells with glory

The Korean National Team’s performance at the VICTOR Korean Open was phenomenal. Korean players made to the finals in all five events, taking the crown in Men’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Women’s Doubles. Legendary player Lee Yong Dae also won his 43rd Superseries titles in his last international game.

VICTOR Korean Open Finals on Sunday was enthusiastically packed with supporting crowds that came to witness the “widely admired oppa” Lee Yong Dae’s farewell battle. They also cheered in the hope that the Korean Team would sweep five champions. Gold medal was obtained in the first battle of Mixed Doubles Ko Sung Hyun & Kim Ha Na, avenging their lost last Sunday by 21-14 in the first game and 21-19 in the second game. Having successfully defeated the Chinese Team Zheng Siwei & Chen Qingchen, this is Ko Sung Hyun & Kim Ha Na’s first golden triumph in VICTOR Korean Open.

World no.1 and top seed Lee Yong Dae & Yoo Yeon Seong came up against the up-and-rising Chinese team Li Junhui & Liu Yuchen in Men’s Doubles Finals scoring 16-21, 22-20, 21-18. The victory was welcomed by roaring cheers from supporters in the players’ home ground, marking a perfect end to Lee Yong Dae’s national team career. This is Lee’s 43rd gold medal won in the superseries, who holds the record second to the Malaysian Badminton Champion Lee Chong Wei.

Olympics Women’s Doubles bronze medal winner and top seed Jung Kyung Eun & Shin Seung Chan also lived up to expectations, securing the championship of the Women’s Doubles for the home team. Jung and Shin swept the game almost effortlessly; scoring 21-13, 21-11 against the Chinese twins Luo Ying & Luo Yu. This is their first gold medal in the superseries this year. In the Women’s Singles and Men’s Singles finals, Sung Ji Hyun lost the final battle to Yamaguchi Akane from Japan, and Son Wan Ho lost the final to Qiao Bin, both bringing home a silver medal.
